CHAKWERA COMMENDS PROGRESS OF SECURITY AGENCIES’ STAFF HOUSES

    By Our Reporter

President Lazarus Chakwera says he is satisfied with the progress and standards of staff houses being constructed for state security agencies in the country.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during inspection of works under this component in Chikwawa and Blantyre districts.

On assuming office in June 2020, Preisdent Chakwera promised that his administration would construct 10000 staff houses for all security agencies as way of restoring the decorum accorded to offices in these entities.

The agencies are Malawi Defence Force, Malawi Police Service, Department of Immigration and Malawi Prison Service.

The President told the media at Bangwe Police Sub-Station that his administration continues to realise what it envisioned on improving living conditions of police and army officers including those from immigration and prison services.

“I must say that the standards of the houses are satisfactory across the country. This anchors well with our dream to develop Malawi in all aspects in line with the Malawi2063 agenda,” said the President after officially commissioning 20 houses at Bangwe.

Earlier, the Malawi leader inspected similar projects at Mitole Police Station in Chikwawa where 30 houses are almost complete, a situation similar to houses he also examined at Blantyre Police and Blantyre Maximum Prison.

Under Phase 1 of the projects, government, through the Ministry of Lands, is constructing 1028 houses and estimates put completion rate at 85 percent.

President Chakwera said Phase 2 which earmarks construction of over 2000 houses will commence this year after the passing of the national budget in April.
