Barely hours after witnessing the coronation of King Charles lll on Saturday, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera held bilateral discussions with the newly- elected Scottish First Minister- Humza Yousaf where the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest chief among which was Malawi’s post economic recovery plan post Covid 19 and Cyclone Freddy.
During the discussion, President Chakwera expressed hope of continued cordial relationship between the two countries.
The Malawi leader acknowledged the good relationship which has existed between two countries and expressed hope that the ties will grow because the First Minister has a better understanding of Malawi.
The First Minister visited Malawi in 2014 when he was Minister of External Affairs and International Development.
According to an update on President Chakwera’s official Facebook page, the Malawi leader further expressed gratitude to the Scottish government for its pledge and support for Cyclone Freddy victims and cholera outbreak respectively.
“In the same vein, I expressed gratitude to Scotland’s pledge of £400, 000 towards the relief of Cyclone victims and £236,000 towards Malawi’s cholera outbreak response earlier this year,” wrote President Chakwera.
These bilateral talks is one of President Chakwera’s side engagements on his tour to King Charles’ coronation.
