There was busy traffic, ululation and jubilation after Mighty Wanderers beat Moyale Barracks Football Club through a lone goal from ex-Nyasa Big Bullets goal poacher, Chiukepo Msowoya, in a pulsating TNM Super League match played before a sizeable crowd at Mzuzu Stadium.
It was a game of few chances as both teams failed to unlock the defence of either side but it was Msowoya who separated men from boys by scoring the only goal which came 33 minutes into the first half.
Speaking after the game Mighty Wanderers, assistant coach, Joseph Kamwendo said they played according to their game plan.
“We are very happy because we came here to collect maximum points and it has worked. We should give thanks to our players because they have played according to the plan. Coming here in the North and collecting three points is no mean achievement,” Kamwendo said.
He however bemoaned the condition of the pitch which according to him did not allow them to play their style.
“We have not played our type of football because the state of the ground did not allow us to play our passing game. We had to change the system to adapt but we are not worried because what matters is the result,” he said.
Moyale Barracks FC coach, Prichard Mwansa said losing a game does not mean your players are not good, the team has good players.
“What is needed now is for these players to know what they are supposed to do,” Mwansa said.
He said a loss is painful but as a team they should look for ways to overcome the defeat and show their supporters what they are capable of.
