President Lazarus Chakwera has on his birthday donated 10,000 kilograms of maize to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) for distribution to flood victims in various camps in the Southern Region.
The Malawi leader, who turned 67 on Tuesday April 5, says he decided to stand in solidarity with those whose lives have been disrupted by the recent devastation from tropical storms and cyclones.
Malawi has over the past months been hit by Cyclones Idai and Kenneth and tropical storms Ana and Gombe claiming over a hundred lives and destroying property worth millions.
The most affected districts are Chikwawa and Nsanje. However, 17 districts in total were declared as disaster areas by government during Cyclone Ana early this year.
