As leadership wrangles continue to divide the main opposition the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) factions, the story is different in the camp of their rival Malawi Congress Party (MCP). The party is at peace and united now than ever
Some days ago party officials and parliamentarians from all corners of the country flocked to Mitundu where president Lazarus Chakwera held the impromptu development rally at Mitundu ground. According to president Chakwera who is also the MCP president, the rally was only arranged the previous night but party officials and parliamentarians from all corners of the country managed to attend.
The president commended the party officials for attending the rally despite being informed about the function in short notice. The Malawi leader said this a clear demonstration that there is unity of purpose in the party and that the party always do things in one accord
‘’The message about this development rally only circulated to leaders last night but party leaders from as far as Kasungu and Dedza are gracing this function. This reminds me what one late district Chairman a Mr Kwenda used to say that MCP is like the press button. Whenever you press the button everyone pulls in one direction”. Said president Chakwera
In a rare move which demonstrate love in the party, two parliamentarians whose constituencies share boundaries Binton Kumtsaila in whose area the rally was taking place and Liana Kakhobwe Chapota from Msozi south spoke at the function
Scores of parliamentarians and ward councilors graced the function. Notable names who attended the rally incudes MCP deputy president Harry Mkandawire, Speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, Abida Mia of Chikhwawa Nkombezi, savel Kafwafwa Dedza North, Rachel Zulu from Mchinji North, Overston Kondowe Nkhotakota North East, Kafandikhale Nsanje Central, Emmanuel Jere Chambula Nyina from Mzimba, Madalitso Wirima from Kasungu North among others.
