President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed new board members of the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) in exercise of his power under section 5 (1) of the Energy Regulation Act.
Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi, has confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament.
MERA has been operating without a board of directors following the resignation of the previous one which was forced out from office by government on grounds of incompetence and they failed to appear before the Public Appointments Committee.
The new board comprises Reckford Kampanje as Chair with Ms. Innocencia Chirombo as his Vice. Other members are Lameck Nchembe, Charles Kambauwa and Ulemu Kambwiri. Ex-officio members are Secretary for Energy, Director of Energy and the Chief Executive of MERA.
