As one way of drawing youths closer to God and fellowship together, Mzuzu City Presbytery Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF) in Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) recently organised a football and netball bonanza.
Mzuzu City Presbytery entertainment chairperson, Subusiso Tembo, said the main objective of this bonanza is to bring together youth from all corners of the presbytery.
“There are two objectives of organizing this tournament. The first is to bring together all youth within Mzuzu City Presbytery together as a family. Secondly it is part of our spots evangelism where we come together, pray together and indulge in sporting activities,” Tembo said.
He said all along they have been organizing tournaments but this time they bought trophies to hand out to winners.
“For the first time we have bought two trophies for football and netball at the same time we have bought four medals two in football and netball segment respectively carrying best player of the tournament as well as top goal scorer,” he said.
On his part Mzuzu Congregation Chairperson, Casca Simwawa, said they are keen to lift the trophy for the second time as they are the defending champions of Mzuzu City Presbytery bonanza.
He said they are now in finals and ready to tussle with Lusangazi Congregation on a date to be announced.
“We did not play our game but we have taken note of that. We will go to drawing board and rectify the errors we made and come out stronger in the finals,” Simwawa said.
The bonanza saw six teams participated in the bonanza out of from Mzuzu City Presbytery and Mzuzu and Lusangazi congregations are in the finals. Winners in football will walk away with K30 000 while netball champions will cart home K15 000.
