There was commotion at Mzuzu University on Monday morning as students at Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality demonstrated over mismanagement of funds at the institution.
Jeremy Banda, one of the organizers of the demonstrations, told this publication that students were disappointed with how management and transportation section are handling the arrangement of mobility of students from the main campus to Dunduzu campus.
“The students are at times told that there is no fuel, a situation that forces some students to walk on foot to Dunduzu campus” said Banda.
In addition, some students are left behind as the bus can only do three trips to Dunduzu against a number of 600 students from the faculty.
University Registrar responsible for academics, Gareth Mwenefumbo, told this publication that he is waiting for an official communication for the university stand on the matters raised.
Some of the demands in the petition include – termination of contracts for some drivers and rescheduling of the prescribed time table.
At the time of going to publication the students were at the administration block waiting for the Vice Chancellor and University Registrar to address them on the petition presented before management.
