    The Football Association of Malawi ( FAM) Executive Committee has appointed Flames Technical Director Marian Mario Marinica as the new Head coach of the Malawi Men’s National Football team.
    This follows the 1st Quarterly Meeting of the Committee held on Saturday 9th April, 2022 at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.
    “This was arrived at after the committee was impressed with the performance of the National team the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in January under Marinica as Caretaker Head of Technical Panel and resolved to give him full mandate,” reads a statement released by FAM dated 10th April, 2022.
    Meke Mwase: Relieved of his duties
    He will cease to be the Technical Director and he will sign a new contract for his new role in due course as he has been given the power to choose his own backroom staff.
    His appointment means that Flames Coach Meck Mwase has been relieved of his duties and the statement said that FAM will engage the Malawi Government on redeploying him for the rest of his contract which expires in April next year.
    “The Committee also resolved to engage Malawi government on fast tracking the renewal of contracts for Under 20 National Team Coach Patrick Mabedi and U-17 Coach Decklerk Nsakakuwona which expired in October last year,” the statement highlighted.
    Meanwhile, FAM Technical Development Officer Benjamin Kumwenda has replaced Marinica as the new Technical Director.
