…bans lakeshore meetings
Government has responded to austerity measures announced by President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera by effecting a ban on all lakeshore meetings involving public officers.
Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba in a memo to all ministries and departments announced on Wednesday that all government meetings should be held within duty stations while board meetings for parastatals must be held in the boardrooms.
The ban comes just days after President Dr Chakwera announced tough austerity measures during a press briefing six days ago.
Zamba also said that meetings in Mponela, Dowa for government officers based in Lilongwe have been banned.
The measures include restrictions on foreign trips for all government officials for the period between June and December this year.
Some of the other notable measures as announced by the President so include slashing by 20 percent of fuel allocated to ministers, reduction to three international trips by government officials and restricting four meetings per year for all boards of government institution.
