Card carrying youths in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have torn into former President Arthur Peter Mutharika and his inner circle for watering seeds of confusion in the party through their baseless press briefings which they view as a ploy in vain.
The dissatisfaction comes as a reaction to a press briefing the former President held on Sunday at his PAGE House in Mangochi where he spewed a lot of incoherent issues.
Mutharika, in trying to remain relevant to the political landscape, accused the Tonse administration in one moment and revealed that his brother, Bingu, was poisoned a moment later.
It is this kind of unfocused presentation of issues that has irked the party youths who feel the octogenarian is treading dangerously and will eventually destroy the party he inherited from his brother.
One blue-eyed cadet, Greyson Chapita, accused those that accompanied Mutharika for talking too much thereby overshadowing their boss.
“Next time press conference ya APM must be press conference ya APM osati izi za gwirugwiru aliyense (APM’s press conference must be his not everyone trying to jump in with their opinion)” decried Chapita in his Facebook post.
Another cadet, Yamikani Kunashe, labeled the whole exercise as a sham that proves DPP’s weakness as an opposition party.
“Ma cadet presser iyiyi mwapala. Imafunika presser yoti mukamaliza unyolo wa ku Area 30 wanyamuka kukusakani osati zonyamula macheso izi. MCP mukhoza kumalamula olo mpaka 2080, basi we don’t have an alternative (Cadets let’s accept that this is a pure joke. A real press briefing is one which forces law enforcers to look for you afterwards. Malawi Congress Party please continue ruling up to 2080, we have no alternative.”
Another youth leader, Jack Mavutula, chose to ignore the showpiece altogether and opted for a football match which was happening at the same time in Mulanje.
Besides the youth cadres, Malawians across all sectors have also rubbished the presser saying it was a useless exercise by a bunch of politicians that are still recovering from an embarrassing defeat in the 2020 Fresh Presidential election.
