One of the leading multilateral lenders on the African continent, AFREXIM Bank, says it will provide resources to Malawi in support of President Lazarus Chakwera’s landmark dream of mega farms that are aimed at revolutionalising the Agriculture sector in the country.
The bank made its intentions known at a meeting with the Malawi leader on the sidelines of Conference of Parties (COP27) World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Change.
Professor Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afrexim Bank said they will send technical personnel to Malawi within the next two weeks to start groundwork on how the almost 50,000 hectares of land will be put into its full potential.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in his remarks said his government is committed to transforming small and larger-scale farmers to becoming productive and commercial players.
Stakeholders in the country have in the near past commended the Chakwera-led administration on a decision to establish mega farms saying this is the right direction for Malawi to boost food production, manufacturing and job creation.
