Malawi President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera will on Friday hold bilateral talks with Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço at the State House in the capital Luanda, a meeting that will focus on bilateral ties and cooperation in a number of areas such as trade.
President Chakwera, writing on his official Facebook page, confirmed the meeting saying it will offer an opportunity for him to strengthen ties and explore more opportunities in a number of key areas.
“I have lined up a bilateral meeting with the Angolan President tomorrow, where we will discuss diplomatic ties and trade cooperation. We will also explore opportunities in the Energy sector in view of Angola’s competence as the second largest oil producing country in sub-Saharan Africa and member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC),” he wrote.
The meeting comes a day after the Angolan leader has assumed the Chairmanship of SADC following his hosting of the 43rd session of Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government.
The theme of the summit was “Human and Financial Capital: Key Factors for Sustainable Industrialization in the SADC Region”.
President Chakwera said the summit sought to build on the positives and address bottlenecks being encountered in implementing the strategic vision reflected in SADC Agenda 2050, Regional Indicative Strategic Plan 2020-2030, Regional Infrastructure Development Director Plan as well as the SADC Strategy and Industrialization Roadmap 2017-2063.
He also said discussions centred on how SADC should consolidate peace and security and constitutionalism.
