President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s handling of the Zunneth Sattar’s corruption scandal has earned admiration in many African countries. This was revealed on Monday by a reknowned Professor of law and Pan-Africanist Patrick Lumumba at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Conference taking place at Mount Soche Hotel, in Blantyre.
In his speech, Lumumba said Malawians may not understand the kind of attention and admiration Malawi has attracted because of the manner it is handling the Sattar case. Lumumba said while people are keen to see how the case will pan out so far Malawi has made a good impression and it is a good beginning.
“Regarding the Sattar matter, you may not know it but it is something that is acknowledged across the continent by people of goodwill. Of-course the Jury is still out as to What will ultimately happen, but it is a good beginning,” said Lumumba a former Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission in Kenya.
Lumumba also commended President Chakwera’s willingness to fight corruption. He said the Malawi leadership is a shining example on how to tackle corruption.
“You know, in many African countries, what they complain about is the lack of political will, Malawi I see such political will,” said Lumumba.
The National Anti-Corruption National Conference is a two- day gathering of different stakeholders pulled together to reflect on the theme “Resetting the Nation’s Moral Tone”. The conference has been jointly organized by the Ministry of Justice and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
