    CHAKWERA CONDEMNS ALLEGED ABDUCTION OF ACTVIST NAMIWA

    President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has condemned the alleged abduction of Executive Director of Centre for the Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) Syvester Namiwa.

    According to the State House Press statement the alleged abduction of Namiwa is in breach of President Chakwera’s leadership enshrined in the SUPER HiH 5 which advocates for rule of law.

    The statement says President Chakwera remains commited to the cause of making Malawi a free society where Malawians enjoy their rights as provided for in the Malawi Constitution.

    The statement reads: “The alleged abduction is against on of President Chakwera’s leadership principles under the SUPER Hi5, which is the rule of law. The President remains resolute in his commitment to fight and forces challenging government efforts to keep Malawi a free society in which every citizen enjoys their rights as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi”

    The statement says President Chakwera has directed the Malawi Police Service and other enforcement agencies to speed up investigations into the and ensure Namiwa’s safety. The Malawi head of state has also directed that the agencies to be involved in Namiwa’s search to inform the public the truth regarding Namiwa’s alleged abduction.

    “The president, therefore, condemns this lawlessness and calls upon the Malawi Police Service and other law enforcement agencies to speed up investigations into the matter until Mr. Namiwa’s safety is restored, his captors are brought to justice, and Malawians are informed of the truth regarding his alleged abduction,” reads the statement.

    Namiwa is alleged to have been whisked away by the unknown people on Tuesday at Crown Hotel in Lilongwe when he was about to address the media on the impending demonstrated happening today calling for the removal of the Presidential immunity.
