President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has called on the church to promote the virtue of hardwork among its membership if the country is to develop faster as envisioned by the Malawi Vision 2063.
He was speaking at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday during the consecration of Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu Reverend Father Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda.
President Chakwera reminded Malawians that everyone was sent on earth to labour hard just like Jesus Christ.
He said every Malawian is on a mission to develop the country for the public good.
“Do not expect the church and government only to to serve us on a silver platter. Those who are lazy should not enjoy the national harvest,” he said.
Chakwera lamented that in Malawi, too many people want to eat yet they do nothing.
On May 5, 2023 Pope Francis appointed Nyirenda as Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu in Malawi.
Born on 20th June 1976, Nyirenda hails from Wozi in Mzimba District and was ordained a priest of Mzuzu Diocese on 19th July 2008.
He also served in various positions at national and diocesan levels including Director of Kasina Formation Centre from 2019 to date; Director and Formator at Christ the King Formation Centre in Rumphi; Parish Priest of Saint Augustine Parish and Vocations Directors in Mzuzu Diocese.
