Deputy Minister of Defence, Harry Mlekanjala Mkandawire, has applauded Malawi Defence Force soldiers as well trained and disciplined, a distinction that brings recognition across Africa.
Speaking recently when he toured Meru Garrison in Chitipa District on his familiarization tour, the deputy minister commended the soldiers for the cordial relationship they have with the community.
He said it is very important for all security agencies in Malawi to live in harmony with the local community.
“It makes us proud as a nation when we hear of our soldiers being highly praised globally because of their discipline, perseverance and hard work” he said.
The Meru Garrison Captain, Ned Kambilonje, pointed out some of the setbacks they face in executing their duties, these being poor road network and inadequate houses for soldiers.
The deputy minister then assured the soldiers that his ministry will work round the clokc to improve the welfare of soldiers.
“Every soldier regardless of rank should have a house with clean tapped water to live a comfortable life. The Chakwera-led government is geared to make sure that the life of our men and women in uniform should not be a misery,” he said.
